Subject: Energy Efficient Building Standards Code adoption
I am writing to all of you about this issue. While I generally support energy efficiency, in fact that is
part of my job as an engineer for a private water /wastewater company, I am confused and a little
concerned about the proposed action.
I realize there is likely considerable mis- information being presented about this proposal and I cannot
find any place to read the actual code at least in layman english.
One area of concern is the requirement for insulation. My home is uninsulated as it is also un-
conditioned. In other words I dont have or need air conditioning or heat in my home. The confusion is
the rquirement for new home and supposedly additions to existing homes. Requiring insulation in an
unconditioned home is rediculous. I did add some to the ceiling to buffer the sound of the rain on the
roof, but it is not for energy efficiency since there is no energy being used to condition the house.
Anyway, maybe the bill already exempts unconditioned homes, I dont know, if it does then fine, if it
doesnt, it should. It would be a waste of money and resourced to insulate an unconditioned home. In
fact it would probably make it uncomfortable...
