In regards to Bill 264, I wholeheanec'' support $100 as the minimum needed to require a Councilmember to rccuse her /his self from voting on matters of financial interest to the contributors of said donations. This amount • is clearly reasonable since all candidates and politicians must declare receipt of any donation of $100 or more. It should be remembered that Isomedix gave 5;250 to a majority of Councilmcmbers in the spring of 1997, in order to influence heir vote on Bill 62. Surely they would not have done this had they known that such a donation would disqualify the Councilperson from voting. To my way of thinking that would halve been a positive outcome and protective of the democratic process. Also, by voting fc Bill 264, the County Council would bring current law into alignment with the County Charter which clearly forbids any conflict of interest from tainting the legislative p tccss. (pages • 32 to 34, Articles XTV. Code of Ethics) Any Councilperson who is instil ; by this hill as an affront to their integrity is living in a twilight zone of self - delusion. The king has no clothes. • Bill 265 would also create law that brings the County into agreement with its own charter thereby protecting the democratic process from the corruption that stems from the protection of private assets and the promotion of private gain at the expcns r ^f the interests of the majority. • Please vote in favor of Bills 264 and 265.
