I think of it as a beautiful area that my in -laws are lucky to have. I just heard about the gas station and am writing to express my opposition. I fail to see how a gas station put in that area would " best meet the demands of the neighborhood, community and regional needs "! It is clear to me, living miles and miles away, that few people in the Waimea community need another gas station so badly that it could be justified to be constructed one in the most beautiful and historic area of their town. I live near Glacier National Park myself, a beautiful area that still has abundant wildlife, which could be saved at this point, but the few people that are putting their own time and money into trying to get environment- saving laws in place, are meeting depressingly solid walls of resistance and I am sadly having to witness urban sprawl spreading like a cancer over this beautiful valley. The reason this is happening is because of the greed and lack of forsight of the resident landowners. They fight for individual rights to sell property to who -cares- what -end, developers, unnecessary franchises, gas stations, ugly malls, fast food places and sub divisions... Their greed is slowly ruining this area's natural beauty. Don't let this happen to your area, even the smallest things can make a difference. Fight so that your beautiful town does not turn into a paved -over, neon lighted community, under your very nose, because when this happens, the most beautiful souls tend to gradually move away, creativity has no place to thrive, and your valuable loyal community will no longer care.
