I presently have an office /apartment approximately one block from the proposed site of a new gas station/convenience store next to Church Row in Waimea. I strongly object to the proposed use of this site for four reasons: 1) There already exists a gas station / convenience store (Texaco station) not one block from my location and thus only about two blocks from the proposed site. 2) Waimea depends on tourism for a substantial portion of its economy, and Church Row with its historic buildings and old Hawaii feeling attracts tourists; to my knowledge, this cannot be said of garishly designed and illuminated tin can gas station / convenience stores lacking in any architectural charm. 3) There exist already, in the small town of Waimea, a total of three gas station / convenience stores. Are we attempting to become the gas station/ convenience store capital of the world? 4) The owner of this piece of land is aware of the strong swell of opposition to his project in this community, which he has chosen to ignore. He is not a member of this community and therefore won't have to live daily with the consequences of his insensitivity.
