I have been a resident of Waimea since 1983. I have seen many changes come to this community that are very disheartening to me. The reason my family moved to Waimea was to get away from the City life and raise our children in a tranquil country setting. To have a Gas Station at the end of church row alone is bad enough, but to include a fast food store and car wash would be disastrous. The community has many concerns, but my two greatest are the traffic problems and water use of our limited supply. A very close friend of mine was killed in a traffic accident at that very intersection. It is not an area that should be used by heavy traffic. I too request that a complete traffic impact study be done addressing these concerns, Have you ever watched the congestion at the present service stations at the stoplight? We don't need another traffic hazard in Waimea. With regards to the water supply of Waimea, we are already in a drought that has lasted for over 3 years. Farmers and ranchers are already suffering from a shortage of water; we cannot afford to let our water be used for a car wash. The community has shown an urgent response in trying to work with the present owners to come up with a win -win situation. I would hope that the owners would reconsider and withdraw their second application submitted to the Planning department Oct. 9, 2000.
