• We the members of the Kamuela Hongwanji Mission are very much concerned about the
proposed gas station/convenience store / car wash at Church Row. We strongly urge you
approve Resolution 00-345 opposing the project and urging the Planning Director to deny
the plan approval application. •
The members are very much concerned with the following impact that the gas
station/convenience store/car wash will have in the area:
There may be a significant increase in traffic on Church Row Road, a seriously
substandard county road Driving on the road may become hazardous.

With liquor sales within yards of our church grounds people may park and
drink not only in Church Row Park but also in our church property. We may therefore
have to fence off the church grounds to prevent unauthorized people from entering.
There are safety issues over access/egress on to Mamalahoa Highway on a high -speed
high traffic curve across from the new emergency access road to North Hawaii
Community Hospital. There will be a traffic safety issue for many of our elderly
members in making a left tum into the Church Row Road to enter our church ground
especially with the increase in traffic.
With the proposed project so close to our church the noise impact will disrupt the
peaceful, meditative atmosphere of our Church services.
Once again we would like to urge the members of Hawaii County Council to approve the
Resolution 00-345 opposing the project due to the negative impact that the proposed gas
station/convenience store/car wash will have on us, the Kamuela Hongwanji Mission
