For: November 2, 2000, County Council Hearing, Regarding Church Roil
I find myself in a spot most people do not like to be in. As the Operations i . r;Igr. r for Pacific
Waste, Inc. The Minit Stop Stores on this island are my customers and Hav Pc' roleum is a
vendor of ours. How nice it would be for my trucks to be able to fuel in Wnir Both of these
companies have helped Pacific Waste to grow and have help provide jobs n
However, I am unable to stand by without having my say. 18 years ago vvhi' .:ta iding in the
Church Row park, my husband and 1 decided that when and if we had any r h -.• , we would
move to this area. The peace and serenity we felt that day was somethine ii hr w ? have carried
with us until we finally moved to Waimea 9 years ago and has not left us. ;, }v l: ; :ople that I
know in Honolulu can not understand why we would move to what they sc. it outer
reaches. But we know, and the people of Waimea know too, it's the sense • Ionic and heart
that is in Waimea.

I have watched and participated as our community came together to bring
to Waimea. I attend Imiola Congregational Church since my arrival in Wairi
Sunday School Teacher there for almost as long I have watched our town
growth the area around Church Row has been preserved. Our communi;
pretty easy going, has deep commitment when it feels strongly about so+nt
those things.
The proposed use (gas station /car wash) is not compatible with its neighb.:
the tranquillity of the group of Churches there and lose that peaceful setiir:'
our little town. I think that having a collection of different Churches, as the:. ;
wonderful example of our community's cultural heritage.
I urge the Planning Director to deny the application. I urge that the partie_ ,r•:• P,r, ad continue to
work together toward a better situation and solution- And finally, I urge the : nt Council to
save the HEART of our little town.
