Dear Honorable Arakaki,
North Hawaii Community Hospital's lofty vision is to treat the whole individual - body,
mind and spirit - through a team approach to patient- centered care, and ultimately to
become the most healing hospital in the world. This vision is greatly enhanced by the
unique location of our hospital on land at the center of Waimea known as Makahikilua or
place of peace. We do have concern that development around the hospital be done in a
manner that protects this tranquil environment and continues to support this vision.
Consequently, we are concerned about the proposed development across the street as it is
expected to draw heavy traffic to access roads not designed for this (directly across from
our emergency entrance) as well as create increased noise and light pollution. We ask for
your support to assure that any development be done in a manner that continues to
maintain Makahikilua as a place of peace.
