Our economy is supported by the people move here and the tourists who visit here. These people come for the old -style atmosphere that has made Waimea one of the "ten best towns in America." Allowing a gas station and convenience store to do business on Church Square, the heart of Waimea's soul, ends all this. The parking and access problems, the toxic smells, the noisy trucks, the additional alcohol sales, harried customers, increased traffic, and visual pollution that would result, would hurt our local economy and our town, permanently. Allowing this project to continue would be like allowing a gas station to be built on St. James Square, by Honaunau, at the Painted Church, or right in Volcano national park.
