Buffum) have been residents of Waimea for thirteen years and members of Imiola Church throughout that period. We chose Waimea asa retirment home after thirty uears in the US Diplomatyic service with the rank of Ambassador aand Assistant Secretary of State. In large part this was because of the charm of the town, exemplified by Church Row and the annual cherry blossom festival there. There is no question but what a gas station in that area would greatly detract from the appeal of the area, which now is also visited by numerous tourists. We would be in Hilo to testify personally today except that the police Dept. has advised against travel becausse of the storm conditions. We strongly support the resolution of the Waimea Ccommunity Council and urge it be adopted. Your thoughtful consideration of this appeal will be much appreciated.
