I am here to support the Resolution offered by C.- iiciiman Leningrad
Elarionoff in opposition to a gas station /convenience store /c:1r Nash at Church
Row Park in Waimea.
Church Row Park is a beautiful area in the center of w7immi, much used
by the community for staging parades and other passive ac;'-itic , including the
annual Cherry Blossom Heritage Festival. The peaceful natur:.. of the area is in
tune with the five religious bodies which have their buildinc? there. The road
through the park is a single lane blacktop drive with no curl;:: and the grass Is
often used by the churches for additonal parking.
lmiola Church, at the Hamakua end of the park, is one o:' he oldest church
bodies in the state, and has historical landmark status. Th-. <Ji i ry trees have
made Waimea a Japanese cultural center. The community h =: '- :(:atedly shown
determination to maintain the passive and historical nature ; i,l:; park.
As one who regularly attends events at Imiola, I an - :crly opposed to
having a business of the nature of a gas station /conve( ,.: , store at thls
location, for the following reasons:
1. The additional traffic would not be welcome on t; ;12rrow road, and
the community does not want a wider road with 1::. and gutters.
2. The garish nature and lights of a gas station woulC )e out of
character with the beauty of the area.
3. The proposed property is on a curve in the road, ='?d alrectly
opposite the emergency entrance to North Haw1i nommunity
Hospital, a very inappropriate spot for increase{' Sic.
4. Considering the scheduled plans for the "Waime :.; ", this
location would actually be.out of the way of the c nr, idor of future
traffic. There are other locations in Waimea u would offer a
much more opportunistic future spot for a fifth i;ation.
Thank you for your attention to our community's <<' .ho:• to retain its
rural, paniolo character.
