I am the founding dean of the college of pharmacy at UH Hilo and a resident of Hilo. The college of pharmacy was only started in 2006 but it is projected to stimulate the local economy by over $50 million per year by 2012. However, this is predicated on the basis of existing in a vibrant and stable community. Faculty, staff, students, and visitors will not be attracted to come and stay in a place undergoing decay. As a citizen of Hawaii and a resident of Hilo, I am against the fiscal reductions that are currently being proposed that will adversely affect our infrastructure and the wellbeing of our dedicated public servants included those employed by the police and fire departments. Mayor Kenoi's budget will support and protect our island. I oppose the amendments under consideration. For the future of Hawaii, I urge you to support Mayor Kenoi's budget. With thanks for your consideration John M.
