Subject: YOUR 'AYE' VOTE REQUESTED MONDAY FOR RESOLUTION 321 -10
Aloha Council Members:
I am a resident of Fern Acres in Mountain View and I am writing to urge
your support of Resolution 321 -10 which would create a Grant in Aid
Program to assist communities in maintaining their publicly accessed
private roads.
Our community association builds and maintains all the roads in our
subdivision and it is a financial struggle. Not only must we raise
hundreds of thousands of dollars to construct the roads, but then we must
finance the upkeep of the roads. Even with decades of effort representing
thousands of hours of volunteer time, plus the road maintenance fee we
collect from our residents, many of our important roads remain unpaved
and we are challenged to keep the existing paved roads repaired.
Need I say more? Our community is hugely in favor of Resolution 321 -10,
and ask that you vote AYE for this proposal. The fact that I am addressing
this letter to all of you reflects our awareness that this measure is not
only important for Fern Acres, but for many, many communities in Puna
and across the Big Island.
Please also consider that just as I drive in and out of multiple
communities (with privately maintained roads) on a regular basis, so do
the general public, community and business service vehicles (including
school buses, emergency vehicles and the police) drive within Fern Acres
on a regular basis. Roads maintained with a measure of financial
assistance received from Proposal 130 -10 will essentially benefit ALL Big
Island drivers and make a significant difference to thousands of residents.
We are requesting that a portion of the fuel tax revenue which all of us
contribute to year in and year out be allocated to our communities where
the need is so great. Your vote FOR this proposal is very important to us
all.
