Subject: Please Vote Yes on Fuel Tax Revenue Grant -in -Aid program resolution

Vote yes tomorrow on Resolution 321 -10, the Fuel Tax Revenue Grant -in -Aid program to bring
equitable tax distribution to the people of Hawaii County. When we buy gas, we pay a fuel tax
and a percentage is to be spent on maintaining roads in our districts.
Many subdivision roads I have driven on in Puna are poorly maintained, despite the taxes we pay at
the gas pump and the fees that many subdivision residents pay to improve their roads. A portion
of fuel tax money is for this purpose and that is how we taxpayers expect it to be spent.
Watching an emergency vehicle crawl along the poorly maintained road in front of my home
recently, convinced me that we need to take responsibility for the poor condition of our roads.
Big Island roads are disproportionately unpaved. We need to rectify this condition. As our
elected representatives, you are in the best position to lead in supporting improvements and
assure a fair distribution of tax revenues. Resolution 321 -10 is a positive first step.
