Subject: Property tax rates
Aloha,
I realize that this is late but. I hope it still finds you. 1 learned about the
planned increase in the property tax rates for vacation rentals. We have a
small company with 2 vacation rentals on the island. As it stands, with the
current occupancy rates, were not making any money. With our Kona rental
we're actually out a couple of grand each month.
Our Ililo rental is supported by our realtor, pool maintenance guy and cleaning
person. We've utilized their services for the past three years. Our Kona rental
is managed by a local company and provides work for folks who do the same
thing. 'These are folks we make a living supporting small vacation rental
operations.
I hope you understand that business is really bad right now. An increase of
the amount proposed will hurt even more of not worse.
i hope you understand the unintended consequences for a decision like this.
For some owners, selling is not even an option to get out of this situation. Our
Nona -side condo is probably 300k underwater. As you see - this is a lose -lose
situation.
Please consider the impact of your decision on small business.
