Subject: Property Tax raise
Council Members,
I urge you to vote against the raise in property taxes proposed by Mayor Kenoi. My wife and I expected
to move into our retirement home on August 2009. Unfortunately, I came down with Prostate cancer
discovered during 2009. I have had surgery and am now undergoing Hormone and Radiation therapy,
because the cancer is still there. We will not be able to move to our beautiful Hawaii home because my
wife has to continue to work. Her job provides our Health insurance.
We are not rich off island residents. Our only solution will be to raise the rent we charge to our tenant,
who does reside on the island of Hawaii.
This solution to raise property taxes on a few, who cannot vote, is arbitrary, indiscriminate, unjustified and
just plain wrong. I urge you to consider appropriate budget cuts and to consider other more alternative
tax increases. Thank you.
