Subject: The County Band
Aloha,
PLEASE do not cut the COUNTY BAND!!! It would be a big mistake. The County Band
serves a purpose at major events in our community. It is a source of pride for the Big
Island. The Merrie Monarch Parade, Fourth of July Parade, inaugurations, dedications,
Memorial Day, etc., just would not be the same without the County Band. Playing recorded
music at a major event like those is declasse.
Making the County Band a non - profit organization, considering all the budget cuts for non-
profits, is another bad idea. Members of the County Band do not make a lot of money. The
County Band will NOT play for free, as was suggested by some in the community. They will
not march in parades for free nor be at your swearing -in ceremony for free. This is an
election year. Be smart. Consider cutting some other things rather than the County Band.
Or raise taxes. People who support the County Band will support you.
