Subject: Proposed Budget (Bill 211)
Please vote down the proposed Non -owner occupied property tax increase in
this bill. It will be a blow to tourism and have a rippling effect on the
struggling real estate market which has yet to recover. I am a Hawaii
resident on the Big Island with two rental properties. This proposed tax
will seriously affect making rental properties break even given the rising
cost of all expenses. Many second homeowners are just hanging on to their
properties through vacation rental income. This new tax will cause a new
wave of short sales and foreclosures which will affect our economy as a
whole and decrease overall tax revenues.
Please vote against this increase. Listen to the voters. Cut budgets when
needed as we all have to do in hard times. More taxes and depressing the
already depressed tourism economy is not the answer.
Thank you,
Dan Fumento
