I see I am going to get my taxes raised by 31.5 %. I have no recourse. What I don't understand is why? The mayor said in his campaign he wanted to support agriculture and how important it was to the island. So a 31.5% increase in ag buildings is supporting agriculture? The mayor says assessments went down 9% on average so most people will not see an increase. Mine didn't and my taxes will go up 31.5 %. Also my HOME is on ag land, where I grow coffee, My HOME gets the 31.5% tax increase. My HOME is my HOME. It should not matter what land its on. My HOME should get the same rate as any other HOME. I am a HOMEOWNER, but I get no HOMEOWNER tax rate..I get the ag building rate Also, if the increase goes through, I will be cancelling my permit application for a coffee processing and planting shed. I will not increase my production. I was planning to hire some help this year for the harvest, but that wont happen either. I may just have to give it up. As a indidual citizen, trying to make a living, I have to live within my budget. I dont have the luxury of forcing people to pay me more so I can keep my standard of living. I cant impose a tax on my boss to force him to pay me more. You can. I have to cut back. The county government, however, can increase their revenue by imposing a tax on the citizens. The county should have to live within their means. Its a hard decision, but taking more away from those who have already been hit with the economic downturn to keep a bloated government alive is preposterous. Coma. No. R .7 Ref. To Ref.
