WELL THAT IS NOT TRUE !! ...the county continues to single out and discriminate against homeowners with approved home exemptions that have AG use property. That is blatant discrimination...WHAT MAKES YOU THINK THAT STRUGGLING HOME OWNERS (WITH HOME EXEMPTIONS) WHO ARE TRYING TO MAKE A LIVING OFF THEIR AG LAND (WITH LITTLE SUCCESS) AND CONFORM TO THE PROPERTIES ZONING ARE MORE FINANCIALLY CAPABLE OF PAYING HIGHER TAXES THAN THEIR COUNTERPARTS LIVING ON RESIDENTIAL LOTS ? ?? A FULL TIME HOME OWNER OCCUPANT WITH A LEGITIMATE HOME EXEMTION NEEDS TO BE TREATED THE SAME REGARDLESS OF THE PROPERTIES ZONING WHEN IT COMES TO TAX INCREASES. HOME OWNER OCCUPANTS ON AG PROPERTY ARE FACING A 31.5 % INCREASE...THIS IS UNFAIR AND A DISCRIMINATORY PRACTICE....YOU SEEM TO FORGET THAT AG USE RATES WERE CREATED TO ENCOURAGE AND HELP MAKE AGRICULTURAL USE OF PROPERTY MORE FEASIBLE. WE ALL KNOW THAT WITH THE DOWNTURN OF THE ECONOMY, DECREASED SALES, INCREASES IN UTILITIES, SHIPPING, SUPPLIES ETC, THAT FARMERS AND RANCHERS ARE A DYING BREED. RAISING TAXES ON OUR RESIDENCES WILL ONLY CAUSE MORE RANCHES, FARMS AND ORCHARDS TO FAIL....PLEASE RECONSIDER THIS ILL - THOUGHT PLAN TO RAISE HOMEOWNER RATES (FOR FARMERS) ..... MAHALO FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION AND PLEASE SERIOUSLY CONSIDER THE LETTER BELOW Also, as a solution, since the private sector has had to tighten the belt and take pay decreases and cut spending budgets....you should seriously consider across the board 10% decreases in spending and salaries for all county gov. depts. Including staff and budgets as well as all elect officials until such times as the economy improves and more revenues are generated.....MAHALO, Nanny Lorberbaum Coarp. ". A. 6 Ref. Tot Ref.
