Subject: testimony for June 22 Resolution 354 -10
Hawaii County Council
Committee on Human Services and Economic Development
June 22, 2010
Resolution 354 -10 A Resolution to Promote the Cultivation, Processing, Marketing, Distribution and
Use of All Varieties of Cannabis: for the benefit of filling a void within the agriculture and industrial
sectors and to allow the public regulated alternatives to alcohol use
STRONG SUPPORT
I would like to thank Councilman Greenwell for bringing this resolution forward, and for allowing
continued debate on issues related to cannabis.
When I go into one of the local health food stores I can find hemp products of many varieties. There is
hemp milk, hemp oil, hempseed and hemp protein, which is the product I use most. None of it is made
in America because of the ban on industrial hemp. There are more than 30 countires that do allow it to
be grown including England, Canada, Spain, China and others. I have hemp t -shirts and a bag made in
Romania.
We try to "buy local" when it comes to other agricultural products. Think of the money that could stay
on the island and in our country if farmers could grow industrial hemp. It is time for us to join with other
major countries and allow this important crop to be produced here in Hawaii.
Respectfully submitted
