To Whom It May Concern:
It is unconstitutional, unethical and illegal for a County of Hawaii employee to come to
my home unannounced and tell me that my business is being shut down. When I asked
him why, his response was that there have been complaints. When 1 asked who did the
complaining, he said that he could not tell me. Where in the Unites States of America
does someone have the audacity to come to a person's home who has had a legitimate
business for many years and tell that person to shut down for no apparent reason.
Let me tell you something. The ignorance that goes on in the state of Hawaii is mind
boggling. It is the equivalent of living in a third world country. As in all areas of life
there needs to a balance, just as there needs to be a balance in the ocean.
All the divers that 1 know are in, complete compliance with the FRA'S. They know where
they can and cannot dive to collect aquarium fish. if you do not remove some fish for
aquarium use there will be an overabundance of fish fighting for food and fighting to live.
As 1 mentioned before, the key to sustainability is balance.
What do you think happens when the many dive charter boats loaded with tourists who
have never been diving before in their lives descend upon Hawaii's once beautiful corals
and start walking on and breaking these corals. Corals are live animals too and they
deserve to be taken care of and handled with care.
In closing I just want to ask you to please reconsider banning diving for aquarium fish on
the Big Island. People need to get their facts straight and stop trying to ruin the lives and
Livelihoods of so many people_
