Subject: SUPPORT - Reso. 363 -10 Disallowing Reef Fish Collection for Export
Dear Distinguished Councilmembers,
Thank you for this opportunity. I support this resolution because:
I have seen a dramatic decline in reef fish especially in the last few years. Where I used to see schools,
there are none. Unregulated reef fish trade is not sustainable, act NOW before we cannot act.
We were approached to buy a boat from a reef fisherman, who told us we could make thousands a
month with no regulation, you can collect as many fish as you want, "no one cares" he told us...(!
Reef fish are critical to reef health, beauty and abundance. Let's make a statement, let's show our ocean,
our 'aina', and the world WE CARE!
Healthy, abundant ecosystems support ALL of Hawai'i's people and visitors - not just a few.
Please pass this resolution!
