Subject: I support Reef Fish Collection Resolution (363 -10)
Please ban collection of reef fish for export from our Big Island waters. If need be, designate an area for
collection with the mandate to monitor fish populations. As an island resident here in Kona since 1997, I
remember the days when yellow tangs travelled in schools as big as clouds, file fish were ubiquitous,
and the forceps fish butterfly fish (I believe lau wiliwili nukunuku oioi) was plentiful. I really hope we
can set up a system whereby volunteers can collect data on fish populations and the health of our corals.
Let's be good stewards of our ocean resources and collect data that can guide our conservation and
protection efforts.
