Table of Concerns
Unsuitable species:
Many fish species taken from Hawaii reefs simply cannot survive captivity. Export of animals with little
chance of survival should cease. This practice is inhumane to animals.
"Threatened wild populations:
Commercial collection has contributed to decreased populations of 7 species on this list in the past 10 years.
One more species is listed in Hawaii's 2005 Species of Greatest Conservation Need. Collection of these
species should cease.
Endemic/1-,eaoy species:
Endemic species represent Hawaii's natural legacy. They require stewardship to ensure their future.
