The grant's purpose is to improve Hawaii Police Department's ability to respond to sexual assault and other violent crimes against adult and adolescent women. This will be accomplished with timely examination by Sexual Assault Forensic Examiners and Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner nurses and the analysis of recovered evidence specimen. This grant will cover the costs to conduct these exams and for the analysis of the specimen by a certified laboratory. Enclosed is a resolution to authorize the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the State of Hawaii Department of the Attorney General for this grant. Also enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating this $125,000 Sexual Assault Exam & Offender /Victim DNA Analysis Grant. This grant covers the costs to conduct the exam by SANE nurses and analysis of the specimen by a certified. laboratories. In reviewing this matter, timely approval is crucial. It is therefore advantageous that approval is granted and the matter be placed onto the next Council agenda for review. However, in the event this request is denied, for whatever reason, I understand the matter shall be referred to the Finance Committee for placement on its future agenda.
