Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 372 -10, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 372 -10, introduced by Council Member Brenda Ford via Communication
No. 884, dated July 20, 2010, authorizes the Director of Finance to enter into negotiations for
the acquisition of the Lucile P. Kingman Trust Parcels (TMKs: 7 -7 -008: 020 and 031).
Bob Fitzgerald, Director of Parks and Recreations, stated he is in support of this resolution. He stated
the area is a well -used recreational area in Kona, and also indicated that the concept of having
recreational land on the mauka side of Ali`i Drive would benefit the community.
Ken Van Bergen of Property Management said the Kingman's property is listed fourth on the 2009
prioritized list. The first three properties on the priority list (Kawa, Pa`o`o, and Lapakahi) are currently
either being purchased, in closing, or under negotiations; therefore, the Kingman's property would be
the next purchase. Mr. Van Bergen also stated that there are sufficient funds in the Public Access, Open
Space and Natural Resources Preservation Fund (2% Land Fund) to purchase these properties.
Speaking in support of the resolution were Councilmembers Yagong, Naeole- Beason, Enriques and
Council Chair J Yoshimoto.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution 372 -10, and
recommends its adoption.
