Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 637, reports as follows:
Communication No. 637, transmitted by Mayor Stephen K. Yamashiro, dated January 26, 2000,
nominates Mr. Mark M. Nakashima of Hamakua to serve on the Salary Commission.
Mr. Nakashima, a 35-year resident of Hawaii, has been a Legislative Specialist/Field
Representative with the Hawaii State Teachers Association since 1992. Previously, he was a
teacher with the State of Hawaii Department of Education. He is also involved with the Hawaii
Jaycees and the Hamakua Lions. A member of the Democratic Party, he will serve a term to end
December 31, 2001.
Pursuant to Section 13-28, Hawaii County Charter, the salary commission shall consist of nine
members appointed by the mayor with the approval of the council.
Your Committee on Finance recommends the confirmation of Mr. Mark M. Nakashima to the
Hawaii County Salary Commission.
