From: Diane Ware [volcanogetaway ©yahoo.com] Sent: Tuesday, August 17, 2010 11:55 AM To: counciltestimony Cc: robin Subject: Res. 321 -- Support Dear Council Members, "Governor Lingle recently signed a bill that gives absolute authority to the police to enforce traffic laws in private subdivisions if the general public commonly uses the roads. The courts now have a clear mandate to support the police in enforcing traffic laws in HOVE. ". Page 1 of 1 P/CowJc.n. • I am in support of Res. 321. Those of us living in substandard subdivisions not only pay for our own infrastructure - -- electric, roads, water and sewer but we must also put in time and effort to provide these services most property owners take for granted. As an example of this effort I will quote the recent HOVE Road Maintenance newsletter, "The HOVERMC is a community effort. We receive no county, state or federal funds for the maintenance of our roadways. The Directors receive no pay for their time and efforts, and are always looking for volunteers to help. We especially can use volunteers who have experience in business, finances, legal or other management areas." On the issue of using public funds for private roads I will again quote the newsletter from Hawaiian Oceanview Estates in Ka'u. Ca +as Ref. To 1 Ref. Date AUG 18 2.010
