Resolution 308 -10 — Aquarium fish
We need to ban all taking of aquarium fish from Hawaiian waters.
We have turned a blind eye to environmental damage for the sake of commerce.
If we eliminate areas where schools of fish and exotics can be seen we will also be
eliminating a large segment of the tourists who come here just to dive which is
important to our economy. They will go elsewhere.
We need to protect this natural resource so it will be there for future generations
There was a bill that originally required 50% of the coastline to be fish replenishment area,
a protected area. This percentage was later reduced to 30 %! The number of permits given has
escalated and thousands more fish have been collected and the casualty rate for those shipped is high.
We need to get our priorities straight.
