Dear Chairman Yoshimoto and Council Members:
As you know the County of Hawaii Planning Department has created an Action
Committee for the Puna Community Development Plan (PCDP). The General Plan
calls for the formation of Action Committees, which would be appointed by the Mayor
and confirmed by the County Council.
The resignation of one of the initial appointees compelled the Planning Department to
identify and nominate an alternate who is eager to participate in the CDP process as an
Action Committee member. We would appreciate your attention on this matter and are
requesting that this item be waived from the Planning Committee and placed on the
October 6, 2010 full Council agenda for discussion and confirmation of this individual.
It is my pleasure to inform you that I have appointed the following individual to the Puna
CDP Action Committee:
1. Gregory W. Braun (2 -year term) has resided in the Puna district for more than 37
years and is a respected local business man. He has owned and operated Asia
Pacific Flowers, Inc. in Kapoho since 1979, employing up to 22 employees. Not only
is Mr. Braun well versed and experienced in Puna's agricultural heritage, he has
volunteered on a wide variety of agricultural related associations and community
groups, including service as Vice -Chair of the Puna CDP Steering Committee.
Mr. Braun's experience on the Steering Committee combined with his
agricultural- business perspective and training in facilitation and problem solving will
undoubtedly serve the Puna community and County of Hawaii well in the
implementation of the Puna CDP.

RE: Communication No. 959 : Confirmation of Gregory W. Braun to the Puna CDP
Action Committee.
Pursuant to Section 2(g) of Rule 4 of the Rules of Procedure of the Council of the County of
Hawai`i, this written request is submitted with my approval that the above - referenced matter be
waived from the Planning Committee to the full Council for immediate action. In reviewing this
matter, timely approval is crucial. It is therefore advantageous that approval be granted and the
matter be placed onto the next Council agenda for review. However, in the event this request is
denied, for whatever reason, I understand the matter shall be referred to the Planning Committee
for placement on its future agenda.
