I would like to state for the record that I am in favor of the privatization of that portion
of Kamaoa Road known as Old Gov't Road.
That portion of the road has been gated since the 1950s and has remained gated because it
keeps livestock from going onto South Point Road into busy traffic. There have been
numerous occasions where livestock and neighboring horses have gotten onto South
Point Road at this intersection because this gate was left open. Just a few months ago
there was a fatality near Pahala because a faulty gate and fencing allowed livestock onto
a busy roadway. The gate in question has served its purpose just as it is for the better part
of 60 years.
So for the record, I agree with the majority of adjoining landowners that this road should
be made private.
