Testimony Re: Resolution 385 -10
Requesting the Mayor and Administration explore the potential for a lease
agreement to expand operations at the West Hawaii branch of the Hawaii Island
Humane Society

To members of the Hawaii Island County Council,
I hereby respectfully add my voice to those of others who appreciate and
support the Council's efforts to secure a land lease agreement for Hawaii Island
Humane Society's Kona shelter.
HIHS began actively seeking land months ago. The shelter's current location is
far from ideal both in terms of space constraints and proximity to the County's
green waste and landfill. As a member of the Board of Directors of Hawaii Island
Humane Society, I'm confident that HIHS would graciously accept any parcel
that meets the organization's long term needs and goals.
We are optimistic that, together with the efforts of the Hawaii County Council, a
parcel of county land and its lease terms could be mutually agreed upon so that
the end result is beneficial to the needs HIHS and to the hundreds of animals
housed in the shelter.
Again, I support the resolution and reiterate my appreciation to the Council
members for their efforts.
Sincerely,
Scott Dodd
HIHS Board Member
