Regarding: Letter of Support For An Ordinance Amending the Puna Community
Develop Plan As Adopted By Ordinance No. 08 -116 ( "Bill 194 ")
To Chair Yoshimoto, Council Members, Chair Ikeda, and Members of the Committee on
Planning:
I am testifying for the Hawaii Laborers' Union, Local 368, on behalf of our over 400
active members & retirees who reside on the Big Island. We have reviewed the
proposed amendments to the Puna Community Development Plan and we support Bill
194.
The proposed amendments to the Puna CDP will help improve the plan to be more
balanced and allow for market forces to determine the size of commercial development
within a regional town center.
Our members who reside in Puna should have the opportunity to have commercial
services built close to their homes. They could also benefit from the much needed
construction jobs that will be created.
