Re: Letter of Support – Amendments to Puna Community Development Plan -- Bill 194
Dear Chair Yoshimoto, Chair Ikeda, and Members of the Hawaii County Council and the
Committee on Planning:
Aloha! My name is George Martin; I am a long -time resident on the Island of Hawaii and
am a Business Agent with the ILWU Local 142, Hawaii Division.
The Puna Community Development Plan (Puna C.D.P.) was initially approved on
September 10, 2008 as Ordinance 08 -116 (Bill 318, Draft 4). The 2008 Puna C.D.P. was
adopted before all issues were addressed, and these proposed amendments contained in
Bill 194 will assist in the implementation of the Puna C.D.P.
As the Puna C.D.P. is intended to provide guidance to decision makers on the future
development for the next twenty (20) years, the proposed revisions contained in Bill 194
will allow the necessary flexibility to meet the challenges of the future.
Therefore, the undersigned respectfully requests that the County Council approve the
proposed amendments to the Puna C.D.P. contained in Bill 194, as those amendments are
consistent with the goals, objectives, and policies of the General Plan.
