Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Bill No. 301,reports as follows:
Bill No. 301,transmitted via Communication No. 944 from Mayor William P. Kenoi, dated
September 9, 2010,presents a Change of Zone Request by Kevin Ken Akiyama, at Waiakea, South
Hilo, Hawai`i, covered by Tax Map Key: 2-4-032:012.
Bill No. 301 seeks to amend Section 25-8-33 (City of Hilo Zone Map),Article 8, Chapter 25 (Zoning
Code) of the Hawai`i County Code 1983 (2005 Edition), by changing the district classification from
Agricultural—Three Acres (A-3a)to Family-Agricultural—One Acre (FA-la), for an area of
approximately 5.00 acres.
There was no public testimony. Applicant was present at the meeting.
Council Chair J Yoshimoto informed your Committee that he was familiar with the area. Council
Chair Yoshimoto stated that the rezoning request was appropriate for the area, and that the request
had his full support. There was no further discussion on the matter.
Your Committee concurs with the Windward Planning Commission's and the Planning Director's
favorable recommendation for approval of the Change of Zone request.
Your Committee on Planning is in accord with the purpose and intent of Bill No. 301, and
recommends it pass first reading.
