Honorable Committee Members
Thank you for allowing me to testify today. My name is Bertha Basabe.
I have lived in Hawaii for 33 years. I am a nurse at Kona Community Hospital and
have been an aquarium fish collector for 27 years.
I am opposed to proposed Resolution 363 -10.
I am unclear why Councilman Greenwell has reintroduced this resolution when we
are currently working with the West Hawaii Fishery Council. We are actively
working with the bLNR to improve on the existing management rules for this
industry. This resolution was heard earlier this year and to repeat this again at this
time is a waste of the County Council's valuable time and it's constituents' money.
I also believe it is important for this state to recognize that this industry has an
important role in our economy and it has been our State's goal to become more
diverse. The resource is renewable and our industry has proven to be sustainable.
Thank you again for your attention and using your valuable time to review my
testimony.
