Subject: Res. 363 -10 In support
Aloha Chair Naeole- Beason,
I am against unregulated aquarium fish collecting. I have snorkeled the reefs for 32
years and have witnessed the reef fish disappear, the algae take over, and reefs die.
Hawaii fish belong on our reefs, not in aquariums. There are NO regulations in place of
how many permits are sold, how many or what kind of fish can be captured. Many of our
endemic species are almost extinct. The "MANAGED" reefs on the Big Island has not worked.
I have seen the DLNR reports. The Big Island is the only island even trying to "MANAGE"
the extraction, so the other islands are at even greater risk. Now is the time to stop
aquarium fish collecting. They take the young fish which will never be there to
repopulate. Please do what is necessary now to save our precious reefs. Mahalo, Anita
