DLNR sworn duty is to protect Maui's resources so protect this irreplaceable resource,,, these are the reef
cleaners, they all play a role in keeping a healthy reef this is what visitors come to see a healthy vibrant
reef this is what the industry sells hawaiian reefs and clean oceans. It is DLNR's responsibility to
protect the reef resource, it is a food resource and an economic resource for our travel industry.
Studies have shown that targeted collected species have drastically declined, they are declining in the
areas that the tourist pay to come and see. and these are the main areas that need to be protected. Reef
collectors should be stopped in these areas„ and should never be or have been allowed to extract any
endemic species be it a bird, a plant, a frog and especially fish. These are the resources that should be
utmost protected. Why they are even allowed to take anything endemic is question and lesson learned
from having precious resources exploited till they are gone.
this is very sad
hawaiians dont need experts to conduct studies for years to tell them what they just told them from the
start,,, and we dont believe your experts with your charts and graphs and years of tests and studies, we
believe the less and less fish every year„ we believe the sad tumors on the turtles to know that the reefs
are getting sicker and sicker, we dont need a highly paid naturalist to tell us that a hawaiian cleaner
wrasse belongs on our reef adding to its health and beauty and not in an aquarium to only die in vain
Do what we have to pay you to do PROTECT OUR RESOURCES. Do not allow reef collectors to
take any more fish, they should not take what belongs here anymore. Aole i'a (no fish)
