Subject: Advocate for Resolution 363 -10
I am FOR the implementation of Resolution 363 -10.
I moved here 8 years ago to specifically work in the dive industry (as a retirement job). Through these
years I have seen a marked decline of many of the reef fish that I came here to observe and swim with. I
have actually observed (underwater at close range), fish collectors doing their business and it is
upsetting to see how some collection is done. Nets are thrown over coral heads and then rods are
jammed into them to flush out the fish. I have seen antler coral (decades old) destroyed. One cannot put
a price on this lose.
Having the fish collectors regulate them selves is an absolute case of "the Fox Guarding the Hen
House ". Fish Collection of reef fish for export and absolutely decimated our coastal waters.
Fish collectors speak of numerous business that will be hurt by banning this practice. None of this is
true. They speak to not being able to support their families. If I can find jobs at my ago, they can too.
This must stop. If I'm not mistaken, there are 70+ collectors that don't want this ban and thousands of
that do. YOU DO THE MATH.
Thank you Council Members, from myself and probably most of the population of our island, for
moving forward on this issue.
