Re: Capital Budget - '
Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Capital Budget to increase the current
fiscal year's appropriation of the Kapi'olani Street Extension project (Mohouli Street to
Lanikaula Street) by $8,100,000 and bringing its total amount up to $8,700,000. This
additional appropriation is necessary to cover the costs for engineering design, Right of
Way acquisition and construction for the Kapi'olani Street Extension (Mohouli Street to
Lanikaula Street) project. The prior funding request of $600,000 was for planning and
preliminary engineering design and did not include the entire engineering design.

An ordinance amending Ordinance t9-8t increasing the CIP appropriation 110.399.5395.79;
from $600,000 to $8,700,000 for planning and preliminary engineering design; engineering
design, Right of Way acquisition and construction for the Kapiolani Street Extension, Mohouli
Street to Lanikaula Street project.
Kapiolani Street Extension (Mohouli Street to Lanikaula Street) [$600,000] increased to a total
of $8,700,000.
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
The basis for the increase in the appropriation is to include funding for engineering
design, Right of Way acquisition and construction costs.
The prior funding request of $600,000 was for planning and preliminary engineering
design and did not include the entire engineering design, Right of Way acquisition and
construction costs. Also, requesting to move additional funding to current fiscal year
to enable procurement of the design engineering consultant and acquisition of Right of
Way upon completion of the planning and preliminary engineering phase or as soon
as possible thereafter.
