Kamakana Villages at Keahu'olu
Hawaii County Council Members:
We are writing in support of the Forest City development proposed at Keahu'olu. We
have been following the development process that Forest City has been going through
and are very impressed by the quality of the thinking that has gone into the project and
the plans that have come out of the that process.
We are encouraged by their interest in including self help housing in the development
mix. We have been stymied for more than 12 years in our attempts to make our self
help housing program available in Kona due to a lack of affordably priced sites.
Meanwhile, we have received an abundance of applications from residents interested in
self help housing in the Kailua area.
Our support is based on the assumption that Forest City will make sites available to us
at prices at less than market value so that the project will be feasible for us to
undertake.
With this understanding and for the reasons previously mentioned we urge your
approval of the development as proposed.
