Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 232-00, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 232-00, transmitted by Council Member Bobby Jean Leithead-Todd, via
Communication No. 712, dated March 22, 2000, authorizes the payment of funds to subsidize
transportation costs of twelve representatives from the Waiakea Intermediate School Ukulele
Band for asister-city visitation to Japan.
This Resolution proposes to pay seven thousand five hundred dollars ($7,500) to the Waiakea
Intermediate School Ukulele Band for travel expenses to Japan from
July 22-25, 2000. This will be a sister-city visitation to Hawai-Cho, Japan and possibly Ikaho-
Machi, Japan.
Although Your Committee fully supported this effort, members were concerned that the approval
of such funding would set a precedent for other organizations.
Your Committee on Finance is not in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution
No. 232-00 and recommends it be filed.
