Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 216-00, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 216-00, transmitted jointly with Bill No. 210 by Corporation Counsel
Richard D. Wurdeman, via Communication No. 671, dated February 25, 2000, provides for the
acquisition by condemnation of private property situate at Waiaha 1St, Puapuaanui 1St and
Kahului 1St and 2"d, district of North Kona, County and State of Hawaii for the Ali'i Highway
Mauka-Makai connector road.
This measure proposes to condemn the following parcels Tax Map Keys (3) 7-5-17:005, 7-5-
19:001, 7-5-19:038, 7-5-19:040 and 7-5-20:001 for the purpose for building aMauka-Makai
connector road between the Queen Kaahumanu Highway and Ali`i Drive to help reduce traffic in
the Kailua-Kona area.
Members expressed concerns over safety issues and whether the project might jeopardize federal
funding for the entire Kahului-Keauhou Parkway project.
Your Committee on Finance is not in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution
No. 216-00 and recommends it be filed.
