CALL TO ORDER – 11:07 STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC ON ITEMS ON THE AGENDA REFERRALS Comm. 64: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 14, HAWAI‘I COUNTY CODE 1983 (Bill 17) (2005 EDITION, AS AMENDED) BY ADDING A NEW ARTICLE RELATING TO PLASTIC BAG REDUCTION (prohibits businesses from providing plastic checkout bags to their customers with a penalty of $100 for the first violation and up to $500 for a third violation within a year; exempts 501(c) organizations and takes effect one year after approval) From Councilmember Pete Hoffmann, dated January 14, 2011, transmitting the above bill. Recommends passage of Bill 17 on first reading: Ayes: Committee Members Blas, Ford, Hoffmann, Pilago, and Chair Smart. Noes: Committee Members Ikeda, Onishi, and Yoshimoto. Absent: None. Excused: Committee Member Yagong. (Note: Mr. Yoshimoto voted “kanalua,” then “no”.)
