RESOLUTION NO. 29 11
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A DONATION OF
MATERIALS FOR THE KAMAKANA CHILDREN'S PLAYGROUND IN
HIGASHIHARA PARK, NORTH KONA FROM AN ANONYMOUS BENEFACTOR TO
THE COUNTY OF HAWAII DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION.
WHEREAS, the Kamakana Children's Playground in Higashihara Park, North Kona had
reached a state of disrepair, had many safety problems, and was deteriorating rapidly; and
WHEREAS, community volunteers from the Rotary Club, Lion's Club, Drug Court
participants, and community volunteers donated hundreds of hours of labor to renovate the park;
and
WHEREAS, Article XIII, Section 13 -12, of the Hawaii County Charter provides that
the Council, on behalf of the County, may accept gifts or donations of personal property; and
WHEREAS, a thoughtful, generous, and wonderful but anonymous benefactor is
donating pea gravel, fencing, an irrigation valve box, soil, masonry blocks, paint supplies,
hydraulic hose for the octopus, and other materials valued at $21,113.22 to refurbish the
Kamakana Children's Playground in Higashihara Park, effective December 31, 2010; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that in
accordance with Article XII1, Section 13 -12, of the Hawaii County Charter, the Council of the
County of Hawaii accepts the donation of materials valued in the amount of $21,113.22,
effective December 31, 2010.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii is directed to
transmit copies of this Resolution to the Honorable Mayor William P. Kenoi, the Director of the
Department of Parks and Recreation, and the Director of the Department of Finance.
