Re: Acceptance of Donation

In accordance with (1) Article XIII, Section 13 -12, of the Hawai'i County Charter, which
provides that the Council, on behalf of the County, may accept gifts of donations of money,
securities or other personal property or of real estate or any interest in real estate, and with
(2) Chapter 2, Article 30, Section 2 -162 (b), of the Hawai'i County Code, which states that a
gift or donation of money, securities, or personal property not covered by the capitalization
procedures (of the Department of Finance) shall be submitted to the Council by letter for its
approval, we request the Council's approval of the following donation:
One (1) Double Yellow Headed Amazon Parrot; (total estimated value of $1,000) for the
County of Hawaii Department of Parks & Recreation's Pana`ewa Rainforest Zoo and
Gardens.
We ask that a letter of appreciation be sent to the donor, Mr. Eric Johnson, 46 -4061 Old
Mamalahoa Highway, Honoka'a, HI 96727.

Amazon Parrot by Eric Johnson to Pana`ewa Rainforest Zoo & Gardens.

B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS
NEEDED)
The Pana`ewa Rainforest Zoo & Gardens has received a donation from Eric Johnson of
Honokaa of a Double Yellow Headed Amazon Parrot "Salsa" that has the ability to talk
and sing.
This donation has an estimated value of $1,000 and will be a wonderful addition to the
current bird collection at the zoo.
