Pursuant to Hawaii Revised Statutes Section 92 -8, this communication states in writing
the reasons for the Special Meeting of the Hawaii County Council to be held on
March 12, 2011, 5:30 p.m. in the Council Room, at the West Hawaii Civic Center,
74 -5044 Ane Keohokdlole Highway, Building A, Kona, Hawaii.
There are reports of extensive damage throughout Hawaii County and especially in
West Hawaii. These reports include a house washed out to sea, motor vehicles damaged
beyond repair by ocean waves, flooding in hotels and businesses, and damaged County
roads, water and sewer lines. As it appears that there is imminent peril to the public
health, safety, and welfare to this County and that emergency response is needed, a
special meeting will be held at the date, time and location described above, for a civil
defense briefing on the March 11, 2011 tsunami emergency and response.
