Aloha Chairman Pilago, Councilwoman Smart and Councilman Ikeda:
I am respectfully requesting that Resolution 42 -11 regarding a sister city relationship with Kumejima Island in
Okinawa be deferred until further notice. We are asking for this deferral in respect to the wishes of the
Japanese government in light of the recent earthquake and tsunami.
We are planning to reschedule a signing ceremony with Mayor Choukou Taira in the near future. We will humbly
ask the Hawaii County Council act on this request when this ceremony and the accompanying OTEC workshop
are rescheduled.
