Comm. N 42 7 Ref. To. P Ref. Dote; F"ES 16 2011 2/15/2011 In English and Science my class is doing a project on plastic bags. We chose different topics. My topic is animal ingestion. Animal ingestion is very dangerous to animals, people, and the environment. Plastic bags hurt many animals. So many animals die each day due to plastic bags. If an animal eats a plastic bag the animal will think it's full because the plastic bag will clog their intestines. The animal will then starve to death. Another way an animal can die is a plastic bag will choke after eating a plastic bag. If an animal eats a plastic bag, after the death of the animal the plastic bag will still be intact. Maybe one day all the animals will be living in plastic bags if we don't reduce the amount we use. Our environment is also in danger from plastic bags. Many plastic bags are polluted on land and sea. There are many areas that are covered in plastic bags. If we don't reduce the amount of plastic bags that are used, we might all be living in plastic. Some animals are used for resources, if those animals die people might not have resources. Many people ask the question " would you want to live in a plastic area or a plastic free area ?" Plastic bags are made of polyethylene which is a type of petroleum. They are typically made from one or three of these basic types: high- density polyethylene, low - density polyethylene, or linear low- density polyethylene. Plastic bags are composed of polymers. Polymers are larger molecules consisting of repeating units called monomers. The repeating units are ethylene or ethene. They use large amounts of oil. We are at war because we want oil. We may run out of oil one day because it is used to make plastic bags. So many plastic bags are made each day. Plastic bags cost a lot of money to make. They take electricity and oil, both of those cost money. My main topic was plastic bags. My sub topics were animal ingestion, plastic bags and the environment, and plastic bag materials. I recommend people to reduce plastic bag use. Plastic bag reduction will keep many more animals alive. Without plastic bags I think that our environment will be a lot nicer and cleaner. Less oil, electricity, and money will be used if we reduce the amount of plastic bags. I think that people will be able to live with fewer bags. They may be helpful in some ways but I don't think they are to the environment and the animals.
